The Königsberg tomato variety is known for being characterized by a very high resistance to the harsh conditions of the northern latitudes of Russia. The fact is that a group of breeders under the leadership of the agronomist V.N.Dederko bred it specifically for cultivation in Siberia, where this variety gives consistently high yields from year to year. According to the description, the potential yield of Konigsberg reaches 20 kg / m2, so we can safely call it the property of Russian selection.

Characteristics and description of the Konigsberg tomato

Königsberg is mid-season, tall, an independent tomato variety derived from several hybrids. The growth of bushes can reach 2 m, therefore, each of them is recommended to be arranged in 2 stems. On one cluster, on average, 7 oblong fruits are formed with a firmly attached stalk.

The plant has a strong root system that keeps it perpendicular to the soil, allowing it to withstand drought, frost and other weather surprises.

This variety is particularly hardy, so it is grown everywhere, including in regions with short summers and cold climates.

The growing season is 115 days; fruits fully ripen at the end of August in the open field or in greenhouse conditions. The variety is considered high-yielding: up to 3 buckets of tomatoes can be harvested from one bush, the mass of which fluctuates from 300 to 1000 g... You can remove them both manually and by machine.

The fruits are conical and cylindrical in shape with a pointed tip. They are quite large and dense in size, with a smooth surface. Tomatoes have 4 seed chambers and have a fleshy pulp. Cracking is not typical for them, so they can be stored for a long time and easily transported.

Königsberg tomatoes have a rich aroma and taste, are rich in vitamins, microelements... The fruits are eaten fresh and used in cooking. Due to their large size, they are not canned.

Types of tomatoes Koenigsberg

The variety has several subspecies:

  • Red;
  • Gold;
  • Pink;
  • Striped;
  • New;
  • Cordate.

Despite the external differences, they have a high similarity in terms of yield and large-fruited. Let's consider each of them separately:

  1. Koenigsberg red is the leading one among all other subspecies. Its characteristic is basic for this variety. The fruits are bright red in color and plum-shaped.
  2. The golden Königsberg is characterized by an intense golden yellow color. This subspecies of tomatoes contains more carotenethan everyone else. Due to its color it is called "Siberian apricot". It is worth noting the special resistance of yellow tomatoes to late blight.
  3. The pink subspecies is the "youngest" variety in the line. It is distinguished by a particularly plentiful yield: the bushes are literally decorated with medium-weight tomatoes. 300 g.
  4. The striped Konigsberg has a peculiar color: ripe tomatoes are red with yellow stripes. Fruit weight is relatively small - up to 200 gso they can be canned.
  5. Heart-shaped Konigsberg combines all varietal characteristics and stands out only in its unusual heart-shaped shape.

Advantages and disadvantages

The Konigsberg variety has many positive features, among which stand out:

  • high adaptability to any conditions;
  • immunity to diseases and pests;
  • excellent presentation of fruits;
  • high yield;
  • rich taste and aroma;
  • unpretentiousness;
  • frost resistance and drought resistance.

Thanks to these points, the variety can be cultivated everywhere. It is perfectly adapted to any climate collisions, both in the north of Russia and in the southern regions and in the middle zone.

Despite the abundance of advantages, vegetable growers note such disadvantages as:

  • long ripening;
  • unsuitable for canning purposes (except for relatively small tomatoes).

Soil requirements

Koenigsberg undemanding to soil, but to grow it, you need to organize the correct agricultural technology.

The soil on the site must be prepared in the fall, fertilizing it with compost, since tomatoes are responsive to a high content of organic matter, potassium and nitrogen. The reaction of the soil should preferably be slightly alkaline, and the temperature not lower than 15 degrees (around the end of May).

Sowing

Experienced vegetable growers advise buying seed from trusted producers, which will avoid purchasing low-quality seeds.

The features of sowing seeds for seedlings are the same as for all mid-season tomato varieties:

  • before sowing seeds soaked in manganese solution to prevent the development of fungal diseases;
  • sowing seedlings begins 2 months before planting them in open ground;
  • seeds are plowed into the ground to a depth of 1-1.5 cm;
  • the optimum temperature for growing seedlings is within 22-25 degrees;
  • when the first shoots appear (2-3 weeks after sowing), it is recommended to treat them with a growth stimulator;
  • after the appearance of 2-3 leaves in the seedlings, it must be dived, i.e. carefully transplant into other containers;

Transplanting plants into open ground

Seedlings are transferred to open ground in 45-50 days after sowing. A week before transplanting plants, it is recommended to temper them: in the daytime, the seedlings are taken out into the street, and taken indoors at night.

Before planting seedlings in open soil, they need to be dug up and fertilized with compost. 1 square meter is planted no more than 3 bushes, since the planting cannot be thickened, as this will lead to a decrease in yield.

If tomatoes are grown in regions with a cold climate, then care should be taken to protect the seedlings.

To do this, you need to make a greenhouse from arcs and plastic wrap. It is designed to protect young plants from sudden changes in temperature.

Post-transplant care

Caring for bushes in the open field consists of the following agrotechnical operations:

  • Watering is carried out at least 2 times a month as the soil dries up. It should be abundant, but not frequent. Water should be excluded from entering the green mass;
  • Top dressing consists in applying nitrogen fertilizers in the first half of the growing season, and then phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. Plants are fertilized with superphosphate 2 times during their active growth;
  • Soil cultivation is reduced to removing weeds and loosening the soil after each watering during the entire growing season;
  • The bushes are formed from two shoots by removing the stepsons every two weeks;
  • Since the plants are tall, they need to be tied to a trellis;
  • When the first 7-8 brushes appear, the growth point is cut off to stop the development of the bush.

Pests and diseases

Königsberg is almost completely resistant to diseases and pests.

In spite of this, preventive measures against late blight, gray rot, aphids will not be superfluous. If, nevertheless, dark spots appear on the lower part of the green fruits, then you need:

  • eliminate the lack of moisture at too warm temperatures in the greenhouse;
  • apply fertilizers containing calcium (for example, eggshells) to the soil;
  • discard damaged fruits;
  • carry out evening watering of the bushes;
  • spray the culture with a 10% solution of potassium nitrate.

The Konigsberg variety is excellent for cultivation in different climatic zones of our country, so it can be called a real find for vegetable growers and the property of national selection. Such plants are not only unpretentious, but also very beautiful, so they can take their rightful place in your beds.

Tomato fruits contain a lot of carotene and other nutrients, so their nutritional value is very high, which makes this variety one of the best table varieties of tomatoes.

Characteristics and description of the Königsberg tomato variety

The Konigsberg tomato is a hybrid variety developed by Siberian breeders. Tomatoes are one of the most beloved and demanded vegetables on our table, so few vegetable gardens can do without them. Experienced gardeners know that not all tomatoes are the same: some are more suitable for fresh consumption, others for pickling, and there are varieties that are good both in winter preparations and in fresh salads. The latter type also includes the Königsberg tomato variety.

Tomato Konigsberg - hybrid variety

Many novice gardeners do not plant tomatoes on their plot, explaining this by a lack of experience and skill. It is these people who should start their acquaintance with this culture with the Konigsberg variety. It received positive reviews precisely for its simple care and unpretentiousness, its fruits ripen even in central Russia and in the northern regions.

Description

Mid-season fruitful tomato variety. It is an indeterminate plant type (not limited in growth). It is mainly bred in closed greenhouses, less often in open ground. It is planted together with supports for later tying.

The bushes can grow up to two meters in height, so the variety requires supporting struts and garters with small garden ropes. It also needs constant pinning. The best yield comes out in plants with 1-2 stems. It has large, broad and pubescent leaves of light green color, as well as simple inflorescences. The first flower inflorescence begins to tie after 12 leaves, then after every third leaf.

The fruits grow next to each other - in clusters of 2 to 7 tomatoes and have the shape of a cylinder. Ripe vegetables are smooth and firm, with a glossy skin and a uniform bright red color.

The weight of a mature healthy fetus on average varies from 150 to 500 grams, sometimes it can be more.

Heavier fruits grow at the base of the bush, small tomatoes in most cases are closer to the top of the plant. These vegetables have a high density, due to which they have a fleshy juicy flesh with a sweet pleasant taste.

Tomatoes are multifunctional in use. They can be canned, pickled, boiled, or consumed fresh. The yield of Konigsberg can reach up to 20 kilograms of fruit per square meter.

Advantages of the Konigsberg tomato: frost resistance, heat resistance, drought resistance, moisture resistance, high fruiting volumes.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

In the description of the Konigsberg tomato variety, it is indicated that the crop has passed variety trials in the Siberian region, has a high resistance to cold and heat. Under favorable growing conditions, the tomato bush is sprinkled with even and beautiful fruits.

  • high knotty
  • friendly fruiting
  • excellent taste
  • bright and rich color of tomatoes
  • universal application
  • disease resistance
  • the possibility of using own collection for growing seeds.
  • late onset of fruiting
  • dependence of yield on soil fertility
  • tall tomato must be shaped.

Features of growing, planting and care

It is recommended to sow the seeds of this variety of tomatoes for seedlings 60-65 days before the intended planting in the ground. Diving - at the stage of 2 true leaves. When transplanting seedlings to a permanent place of 1 sq. up to 3 plants are placed per meter.

Further care for tomatoes consists of timely watering, removing weeds, pinching, feeding with complex mineral fertilizers and preventive measures to protect the crop from diseases and pests.

We recommend installing a drip irrigation system when growing tomatoes in a greenhouse - this will save you time and effort, as well as increase plant productivity and reduce the risk of late blight.

A review of opinions about Königsberg tomatoes speaks of the high quality of the variety: gardeners like their taste, variety of shapes and colors, yield and resistance to diseases.

Alla Zmeeva, Moscow region: “I have been planting the Golden Konigsberg tomato variety for a long time. I plant it a lot and constantly. This variety succeeds both outdoors and indoors. In the open field, the plant does not grow so high, but it still needs to be tied to stakes, and the tomatoes themselves are smaller. This circumstance does not affect either the quality of the crop or the quantity. A very productive variety. Resistant to late blight ”.

Dmitry Bruev, Tomsk: “Konigsberg disappointed me this year. The first brushes were badly tied on the bush. They have two or three tomatoes on them. He threw out the second brushes very high - and even there, three pieces are tied. But for me, perhaps, the reason is that this year the seeds are my own, collected. When I planted it with seeds from Biotechnics, it was a fairy tale what kind of tomatoes! They ripened one of the last, fleshy, sweet, a lot on the bush! I fell in love with this variety. "

Elena Stroeva, Tambov: “We have been growing Konigsberg Krasny at our dacha for five years already. We always plant seedlings in open ground, since there is simply no greenhouse. We grow the seedlings ourselves, it really looks frail and fragile, the stems of the tomatoes are thin, the leaves are sluggish. But after planting in the ground, everything changes dramatically: tomatoes grow quickly, the leaves become large and fleshy. This variety is grown in one stem, but in each hole I plant two plants. I pinch all the ovaries, except for the first 6-7. Here, in Tambov, Konigsberg has time to mature on a bush. The tomato has never been sick with anything, although I have not processed it. Next year I will definitely buy the seeds of the Golden Konigsberg, they say its fruits are even tastier and last longer. "

Testimonials

Tomato “Königsberg is liked by its amazing taste, high yield and resistance to diseases. Before planting, I process the seeds with potassium permanganate, this gives additional protection. Tomatoes give a stable harvest regardless of climatic conditions. The characteristics of the culture are good.

I liked the variety very much, I did not see any drawbacks. The crop gives an average, unpretentious, good growth. The fruits are beautiful, red, and have a good taste. I use them for salads and preparations for the winter.

Tomatoes were grown in a greenhouse. The bush was formed from two stems. Below there were large fruits, on top - smaller and oblong ones. We use tomatoes for preservation, making tomato juice and pasta. This is far from the best variety, but it can be grown.
