The Königsberg tomato variety is known for being characterized by a very high resistance to the harsh conditions of the northern latitudes of Russia. The fact is that a group of breeders under the leadership of the agronomist V.N.Dederko bred it specifically for cultivation in Siberia, where this variety gives consistently high yields from year to year. According to the description, the potential yield of Konigsberg reaches 20 kg / m2, so we can safely call it the property of Russian selection.

Königsberg is mid-season, tall, an independent tomato variety derived from several hybrids. The growth of bushes can reach 2 m, therefore, each of them is recommended to be arranged in 2 stems. On one cluster, on average, 7 oblong fruits are formed with a firmly attached stalk.

The plant has a strong root system that keeps it perpendicular to the soil, allowing it to withstand drought, frost and other weather surprises.

The growing season is 115 days; fruits fully ripen at the end of August in the open field or in greenhouse conditions. Soil requirements

Koenigsberg undemanding to soil, but to grow it, you need to organize the correct agricultural technology.

The soil on the site must be prepared in the fall, fertilizing it with compost, since tomatoes are responsive to a high content of organic matter, potassium and nitrogen. The reaction of the soil should preferably be slightly alkaline, and the temperature not lower than 15 degrees (around the end of May).

Seedlings are transferred to open ground in 45-50 days after sowing. A week before transplanting plants, it is recommended to temper them: in the daytime, the seedlings are taken out into the street, and taken indoors at night.

Before planting seedlings in open soil, they need to be dug up and fertilized with compost. 1 square meter is planted no more than 3 bushes, since the planting cannot be thickened, as this will lead to a decrease in yield.

If tomatoes are grown in regions with a cold climate, then care should be taken to protect the seedlings.

  • eliminate the lack of moisture at too warm temperatures in the greenhouse;
  • apply fertilizers containing calcium (for example, eggshells) to the soil;
  • discard damaged fruits;
  • carry out evening watering of the bushes;
  • spray the culture with a 10% solution of potassium nitrate.

The Konigsberg variety is excellent for cultivation in different climatic zones of our country, so it can be called a real find for vegetable growers and the property of national selection.
