Quiescence is the condition of rest in which plants (or a vegetable organ, for example a seed) are arranged to face an adverse period (for light, temperature, nourishment, etc.) during which they reduce physiological functions to a minimum to restore them as soon as the conditions favorable to their development return. This period generally coincides with winter.
