Edraianthus, a flowering grass of campanula ...

The two plants, edraianthus and bellflower are also cousins. The first, which is more easily found in high massifs in France and more widely in Europe, forms tufts with slender, lance-shaped leaves, which give them a false appearance of grasses, in the absence of flowering. The flowers resemble those of bellflowers, grouped in a rounded inflorescence, at the top of short stems. They are perfect for coloring a rockery or a wall!

You can find a number of varieties, with white, purple, or purple flowers.

When and how to sow physalis?

From the end of march, sow physalis under cover. To do this, fill the cups with a mixture of special seedling potting soil and sand. Place 2-3 seeds per cup that you cover with a thin layer of substrate. Water in fine rain and keep moist until emergence. Once the seedlings have 2-3 leaves, keep the sturdiest and remove the stunted ones. In May, once all risk of frost has passed, transplant in the ground. To do this, weed well before planting and lightly loosen the soil. Make sure to leave about 80cm between each plant.

Rather resistant, this tree is sometimes affected by two pests:

  • Mealybugs: the larvae bite the leaves and suck the sap, which ends up weakening the subject. As a prevention, brush the trunk with clay, then treat with a black soap-based solution or use pheromone traps.
  • Psyllids: more stinging-sucking insects that nest on the underside of the leaves. Spray the foliage with water and treat with a black soap solution to get rid of it.
